Kriel High School was found due to the need felt by the people of Kriel. Before this, busses were used to transport pupils to schools in neighbouring towns. After extensive negotiations, the school was founded by the former TED and Escom.

Hoërskool Kriel se deure is in 1990 geopen met 435 leerlinge, 21 personeellede en met Mnr. W A Redelinghuys as die eerste skoolhoof. Binne 3 jaar het die leerdertal gegroei tot 908 en die personeel tot 31.

The sport fields were officially in use in 1993. The multi-cultural admittance started from 1996. Mr. P H Petit was principal from 1996 to 1998.

Daar is huidiglik 1017 leerlinge en 'n personeelkorps van 46. Onder leiding van Mnr. H Potgieter groei die skool steeds van krag tot krag en kan vergelyk word met die beste wat daar is. Dit is steeds ons visie om gehalte onderwys en geleenthede vir ons leerders daar te stel.
